Stratford Cultural Quarter – London, UK

2012 – Planning

Our involvement in Stratford, London, began in February last year when Delvendahl Martin Architects was appointed to carry out a feasibility study for the public areas of Stratford Circus, a performing arts venue that forms part of a cluster of cultural organizations located to the north of Stratford Station and the Olympic Park. The resulting report now forms the basis of a strategy for the future of the institution in terms of their premises and general brand identity. Following a subsequent and successful tendering process, the practice was asked by the Stratford Cultural Quarter Working Group to develop a strategic vision for the public spaces of the Quarter, which is at the midst of a profound change triggered by the Olympic Park development. The need for a strategy was identified through a series of workshops with the stakeholders, based on a consultation process that was designed as a flexible tool to air general opinions about what was needed in the area, and that has helped to establish specific and strategic proposals for the public spaces. This is an on-going project with the first phase of implementation including new lighting and signage for the buildings being planned for autumn this year.
