Three Waters Artist Studio – Bow, London, UK
2022 - 2023 – Completed
Developed in collaboration with the Bow Arts Turst, Three Waters Artist Studios is the first permanent home for the charity providing affordable workspaces to local artists. The project provides 70 flexible and adaptable workspaces by introducing a mezzanine into 3 commercial units on the ground floor of this residential development, resulting in a 25% increase in leasable area and strengthening the economical viability of the project.
The mezzanine was conceived as a lightweight prefabricated structure. Its design was carefully considered to achieve openness while providing the maximum number of workspaces. A shelving system was installed along the facade to activate the frontage and provide visual interest to the public whilst allowing the artists to control the privacy of their studios.
The project salvaged building materials and components from its previous use as a site office for the development. Timber joists, plaster boards, pantry units, sanitary ware and HVAC units were re-purposed to reduce waste and minimize the carbon footprint generated by the project.
