Delvendahl Martin Architects were appointed by Romulus Construction to develop designs for the internal refurbishment of a 1970s office building in Hammersmith, west London. The open plan office areas were refurbished to a CAT A specification.

Our primary approach to the project involved stripping back existing internal finishes in order to enhance the character of the original building.

On the office floors, the interiors were stripped back to expose the original concrete columns and coffered slabs. Linear light fittings were selected to compliment the soffit grid. A discreet system of secondary glazing and perforated metal panelling, to integrate existing services and provide acoustic attenuation along the facades, was also developed.

In the ground floor reception, we designed bespoke light fittings, whose form makes reference to the original concrete coffered slabs. Taking inspiration from the Art Deco-like characteristics of the building, we designed bespoke furniture including a reception desk, clock and directory board. These are finished in black powder-coated metal and brass.

Delvendahl Martin Architects also designed the external canopy and illuminated signage at the building’s entrances.
