Film Pavilion – Project 1

2010

The first project was located within the boundaries of the
open public square to the western side of the former Truman
Brewery. The area is intrinsically dynamic and characterized
by drastically changing patterns of occupation of the public
space throughout the week.

Exploring notions of temporality and taking as
inspiration the myriad of kiosks and makeshift
structures that inhabit the public space of Brick
Lane, the task was to design a temporary pavilion
for the screening of short films during the BFIʼs
London Film Festival. The film pavilions sat within
a larger public space to allow the exploration of the
relationship between the structure and its immediate
physical context, and the investigation of basic
building design issues such as orientation,
manipulation of natural light, ventilation and comfort.
