Cinemateque – Project 2

Taking the key themes explored in the first exercise, the main project was to design a building for one of the local organizations dedicated to the screening, archiving and promotion of films in the area. The brief for the project has been developed in collaboration with Cinephilia. Within the tight urban grain of Brick Lane, the sites for the building were chosen to address varying degrees of privacy and publicness.

ʻWe have been culturally conditioned to go to cinema theatres to watch a filmʼ as Yoram Allon the founder of Cinephilia, describes it. The brief of this project aims to challenge this idea and explore new means of experiencing film, enabled by technological advancements in projection technology.
